This is why Lewisville Mitsubishi is proud to offer the residents of Lewisville, TX and the surrounding areas these coveted cars.

History of Mitsubishi

The Mitsubishi brand originated in 1917, when the Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Company first introduced the Mitsubishi Model A, Japan's very first series-production automobile, making them a great pioneer in the automotive world. The name "Mitsubishi" consists of two parts: "mitsu" meaning "three" and "hishi" meaning "water caltrop," hence the rhombus, which is reflected in the company's renowned logo.

After the Second War World, the company continued to manufacture cars. They also made a small three-wheeled bus called the Mitzushima and a scooter called the Silver Pigeon.

During the 1960's, Japan's economy was gearing up. With rising wages, the concept of family motoring was taking off. In 1953, the company introduced the Mitsubishi 500, a mass market sedan, to this new customer base.

History of the Models from Mitsubishi

In 1962, the company set a new course record and wins its class with the Mitsubishi 500 at the inaugural international motorsports event. Over the next decade, the company's success gained velocity as they began building a fantastic reputation for quality cars in the United States with the launch of the Mitsubishi Colt under the Dodge nameplate. In 1976, the car manufacturer developed a breakthrough Silent Shaft engine which led to a patented method to reduce vibration in large-displacement four-cylinder engines. This technology allowed four-cylinder engines to operate comparably with six-cylinder ones in terms of smoothness.

During the 1980's, the automaker introduced three subsequent lines in the United States, including the Tredia, Cordia, and Mitsubishi Starion.

Fast forward to 2011, the Mitsubishi Lancer was named a Top Safety Pick for the fourth year in a row by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The next year, in 2012, the company celebrated its 30th anniversary in the United States.
